Our staff is comprised of three classroom teachers as well as a Center Director. Our teachers meet state requirements for early childhood centers and the Center Director meets DHS licensing requirements for administering the program.
We have an excellent teacher-student ratio for each of our preschool programs, allowing for exceptional individual attention for each child. Meet our staff below!
Karen Frick- Head Teacher
Karen comes to us with 14 years experience working with preschoolers! When asked what excited her about becoming Nisse's Head Teacher, she said she's excited to have a classroom that feels like her own! She's looking forward to meeting all our Nisse friends and help start to pave their roads to success! Karen, her husband and their 4 children enjoy playing sports and being outdoors. Their favorite team is the Iowa Hawkeyes!
Shelley Ostern- Director
Shelley is a former registered daycare provider and is excited to have her home back without giving up the joys of working of working with children. She is most excited to meet all the new families and work beside Nisse's teachers to give all our Nisse friends and families an A+ experience! Shelley and her three children love being outdoors! Mostly she enjoys camping and fishing.
Laurie Betts - Associate Teacher
Laurie studied at Luther College and received a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Laurie taught Kindergarten for 3 years and she has been a part of the Nisse team for over 10 years. She enjoys interacting with the students and forming individual relationship with each child. In her spare time, Laurie enjoys running, gardening, and reading.
Alexandra Halse - Associate Teacher
Alexandra is a Decorah native who graduated from Decorah High School and has studied at Luther College as well as Northeast Iowa Community College. Alexandra has several years of experience providing daycare as well as being a Tot Camp teacher for Decorah Parks & Rec.
