Community Involvement/Partnerships

Nisse Preschool is proud to be an active member of our community.  We strive to model community involvement to our students as a part of their social-emotional development and growth as life-long learners.

We plan field trips each year that expose our students to our community life by visiting such places and programs as: Wellington Place, Arthaus, Barnetinum, Vesterheim Museum, Luther College, Pinters Gardens & Pumpkins, the Whippy Dip, the Fish Hatchery, and local farms and/or apple orchards.  We also visit our local police and fire department and post office most years. We value the rich community life that exists in Decorah, and continually look for ways to saturate our programs with community partnerships and involvement.

United Way of Winneshiek County contributes funding toward scholarships and supports our three-year-old preschool program.  We rely on United Way’s support to help provide quality preschool that is affordable for area families.

Nisse partners with Winneshiek Medical Center and RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) to offer our families the option of purchasing a hot lunch (students may also choose to bring a prepared cold lunch to school).  Hot lunches are prepared by Winneshiek Medical Center and delivered to Nisse by RSVP volunteers daily.

The Nisse Board of Directors creates a float to participate in the annual Winter Parade hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, with current students riding on our float along with teachers and board members.

Nisse Preschool is a collaborative partner with Decorah Community Schools and other area preschools to receive funding from the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program grant.
